Information security now!

During August 2024, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has granted a total appropriation of EUR 6 million to support the development of information security. Support for the development of information security was applied for from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom as of 1 December 2022. The aid was granted for 313 companies in total vital to society. The aid granted ranges from EUR 371 to EUR 100,000.

Of the companies that received a positive decision to receive support, 96% are small or medium-sized companies and 4% are large companies. Most of the aid, around EUR 5.1 million (85%), was granted to small and medium-sized companies. Approximately EUR 0.9 million (15%) was allocated to large companies. The aid was widely distributed among companies located in different regions.

A total of 771 companies applied for the information security development support, and eventually 40% could be granted it. A total of approximately EUR 20 million was applied for, more than three times the amount allocated for granting the appropriation.

In October 2022, the Government adopted a decision on temporary support for the development of information security for companies vital to society, i.e. the so-called information security voucher. The objective of the support is to improve the level of information security in companies quickly and thereby make the whole society better equipped against cyber security threats. There are two categories of aid: aid of up to EUR 15,000 for small and medium-sized companies and aid of up to EUR 100,000 for all companies. EUR 6 million had been reserved for the aid, of which a maximum of EUR 2 million could be granted in the form of grants of up to EUR 100,000.
