Information security now!

You can always make an emergency call even in the event of disturbances in your operator’s network during power blackouts, for example. In certain rare cases, it may be possible that even emergency calls cannot be connected. Even then, you can always make an emergency call by switching off your mobile phone, switching it back on and making the emergency call when your phone asks for a lock or PIN code.

The operation of emergency calls has been ensured in mobile networks by many different ways. Generally, emergency calls can be made as usual even if numerous base stations are out of service because of a vast power failure caused by a storm. This may create a temporary shadow area in one operator’s network, making it impossible to make regular phone calls. Your mobile phone may say there is no service.

Emergency calls are a special service. When making an emergency call, if your phone cannot connect to your own operator’s network, it will automatically try to connect the call via any other mobile network available in the area. This means that emergency calls should be possible even when normal calls are not working.

In rare disturbances, your own operator’s base stations may work but they are disconnected from the switching centre and unable to connect any calls. This will also make emergency calls difficult, because your mobile phone will consider your own operator’s network to work when it can form a connection to the operator’s base station. In such situations, you can make an emergency call by switching off your mobile phone, switching it on again and making the emergency call when your phone asks for a lock or PIN code.

The order in which your phone will request the codes depends on the model. The screen where you enter your lock code or PIN code will have a button with the text ‘EMERGENCY’ or ‘Emergency call’, for example. By pressing the button, you can dial 112 and make an emergency call. Your call will be automatically connected via the network with best coverage.

You can also make an emergency call from someone else’s mobile phone even if you do not know their lock or PIN code. The lock screen will include the above-mentioned emergency call button that allows you to dial 112.
